Location can be both a partner and an obstacle when attempting to do outreach. Often areas with the largest open spaces and distances also do not have access to low cost and convenient transport. N addition the availability of services and resources is also limited. The grantee below describes how these factors impact their clients and what they do to reduce these issues.
Due to various parts of Montana being rural, access to medical care is often difficult. For rural Montanans affordable health care can sometimes be hundreds of miles away. Long distances, harsh weather conditions, bad roads and little money inhibit countless people from accessing preventative care. In one rural community the opening of Sapphire Community Health Center, a Federally Qualified Health Center, has immensely helped increase access to preventative medicine. We have collaborated with Sapphire and are receiving referrals on a daily basis for women who are in need of breast or cervical cancer screenings. Because of this relationship we have been able to help improve the lives of numerous women and ensure that they continue to live healthy lives. The AOW has visited with staff at Sapphire Community Health Center twice in order to establish a great working relationship together.
