Martin Luther King Health Center
The Women's Health Program provides no-cost breast health education, screening & navigation services for medically underserved women in northwest Louisiana. The program is designed to meet the needs of women who are at risk for late stage diagnosis due to pychosocial and economic barriers. Information related to prevention & early detection are important aspects of the progrm with 2 key elements being reducing the fear of breast cancer screening & providing access to screening services. Program staff include an African American Women's Health Advocate and an Hispanic Health Advocate who utilize an array of outreach, education & special event techniques in both urban and rural settings. Success is measured by providing outreach & education to at least 2,000 women and providing breast screening services to at least 350 women.
YWCA of Greater Baton Rouge
The mission of the YWCA Greater Baton Rouge is dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women and promoting peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all. The purpose of the YWCA's ENCOREplus program is to raise awareness of breast and cervical cancers and to reduce the impact of these cancers on the lives of primarily African-American, medically underserved and uninsured women in the Greater Baton Rouge area of Louisiana. All services provided by YWCA ENCOREplus are free.
